How Do I Link My Google Analytics with Google Adwords?

This is ongoing question we receive from almost every paid search advertiser we work or consult with. Google Analytics is arguably one of the best free tools available to both Webmasters and Pay Per Click Marketers so it makes sense that these two services are often used in the same breath. So, lets get to it!

First, make sure that:

    1. You have used the same Google Account email address for both your Google Analytics and Google AdWords account(s), and

    2. the Google AdWords login email address has Admin access for the Google Analytics account.

If you happened to not have used the same Google Account, simply add your AdWords login email address to your Analytics account – and be sure to set the access rights as an Account Admin. If you are unsure how to do this, simply, click here and Google will walk you through it.

If you do have a Standard Edition account, please follow the steps below.

    1. Log in to your AdWords account at

    2. Click the Analytics tab.

    3. If you don’t have an Analytics account, click the Continue button to sign up for one.

    4. If you already have an Analytics account, click I already have a Google Analytics account.

    5. From the Existing Google Analytics Account drop-down list, select the name of the Analytics account you’d like to link to. Can’t see it there? You’ll need to add your AdWords username to your Analytics account as an Account Admin as mentioned above.

    6. Keep the checkboxes selected on this page, unless you’re sure you’d like to disable auto-tagging and cost data imports

    7. Click Link Account.

It’s as simple as that! You Google Adwords and Google Analytics accounts are now linked. An added benefit, if you opted to keep auto-tagging turned on, Google Analytics will start automatically tagging your AdWords links for detailed campaign tracking reports!
