Integrate Google Analytics Goals with AdWords Conversion Tracking

Google quietly rolled out a new feature last week enabling the integration of Google analytics goals as conversions in your AdWords accounts.

Simply navigate to the conversion tracking screen and click on the link for ‘Link your Analytics goals and transaction’.

There is one drawback – when you link your AdWords and Analytics goals together, you can only use Goal 1 from your Google Analytics account – so you have more than one goal setup, you’ll need to be sure you’re capturing the most important data.

Something else to consider – Google Analytics treats a goal as the last site entrance. Because of that, the goal is attributed to the actual day of the click. Google AdWords on the other hand, treats a goal as the last AdWords ad clicked. As a result, the goal can be ‘post-dated’ as the date of the click and not the date of the conversion. It will be interesting to see how these integrate together as more data becomes available.

Hopefully the integration of Google Analytics goals with adwords conversion tracking can better aid advertisers, along with many-per-click conversion tracking. It’s about time Google releases this.

    Thanks for the update.
