Do It Yourself (DIY) SEO Resources

No question. SEO is a confusing topic for most folks. This is especially true for small business owners who are looking for an edge online without the high price tags associated with an SEO specialist or SEO Company. Often times these folks resort to doing SEO themselves. One of the even bigger problems with a DIY mentality in SEO is that it’s hard to know whom to trust.  There are a lot of shysters out there who have contributed to giving SEO a bad rap. While this is far from then end-all solution, i’ll try to help simplify things for you by pointing out a couple of fantastic free resources (besides the PPC For Hire Blog, Free SEO Tools and Free PPC tools of course!) where you can learn the basics.

SEOmoz’s Beginner’s Guide to SEO and companion Beginner’s Checklist are excellent places to start. So are Matt McGee’s “How to Promote a New Small Business Website” and Lisa Barone’s “How to Launch that SMB Website.”

At the very least, reading these resources will raise your knowledge to a level where you can make an informed decision about what third-party companies are trying to sell you.

What free resources have you found helpful? Leave them in the comments and I’ll update (with credit) in the post!

** Update: A good friend of mine suggested http://www.SearchPlacementPros.com. They have been in business for 8 years helping websites climb to the top with proven SEO strategies!
