Yahoo Instant Beta: Yahoo Rich Search Assist

First there was Google Instant. Now there is Yahoo Rich Search Assist.  Yahoo’s new beta Search Assist beta will display answers or links directly to the answers instantly as you type in an effort to provide a complete custom user experience – a very similar experience to Google’s Instant. Due to its ‘beta’ label, Yahoo will be initially providing results only for sports players & teams, news, TV shows, and trending searches. You can watch the video below to learn more:

According  to Shashi Seth, senior vice president of Yahoo Search products, only about 5% of Yahoo’s users are currently being opted-in to the new experience and testing will likely continue for the next 1-2 months before being rolled out to 100% of users. Yahoo maintains so far  this has been “revenue neutral” and that ad income has not been impacted. I think this is a significant difference between the two “Instant” products and, for any folks running ads on BingHoo, should absolutely be a high monitoring priority once the product is rolled out across all of Yahoo’s users.
