Google+ Now Open for Businesses – Verification and Vanity URLs

google-plus-logoSo, Google launched business profiles for their Google+ social network last Monday and the mad dash to claim one’s business is on! While the limitations of these profiles is pretty extensive (no contests or promotions) here are a few tips that will help you get started:

  1. First, join Google+ as a user if you have not already.
  2. Next, you’ll need some images and a brief description in order to create your Google+ page.
  3. Lastly, you can take advantage of the getting started guide for step by step instructions.

For some of you who have browsing some of the Google+ pages since their inception, you may have noticed a ‘checkmark’ on some pages.

This checkmark is designed to provide protection against impersonation, abuse and spam. So, how do you ‘verify’ your Google+ page? Simply add a small piece of code or the Google+ icon on your URL and that will confirm that you own the site. You can get both of these options from the Google+ Badge configurator.

For those of you who may be looking for a vanity URL option for your Google+ page, here is some additional information on Google+ Direct Connect. While not exactly a vanity URL, Google+ Direct Connect will allow you to quickly navigate to a Google+ page (and even add that page to your circles) when using Google Search.
