Do You Really Need Your Website These Days?
If Web 2.0 saw a rush to set up Websites, Web 3.0 may see a similar rush to get rid of the same! Social network media such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, YouTube and others are here to stay and gain strength day by day. With more and more online users hooked up to such social forums, it makes sense for companies and organizations to establish their presence there and sell their wares or spread the message through such media.
A Facebook page, a YouTube video, or a Twitter account is easy to set up and update, and has the potential to connect to millions within minutes. In contrast, setting up a dedicated Website requires sound web designing and web programming skills, investment in domain and hosting space, constant attention to SEO to ensure the page remains on top of search engine ranking, investments in Adwords to drive traffic, and more. The social network takes care of all or most of these aspects and communicates just as effectively.
It is not to say that a Website has become obsolete. Social media outlets such as Facebook page has its limitations. Websites allow unbridled creativity and freedom, and still remains a must-have to establish credibility and effect e-commerce transactions. The ultimately decision on retaining the Website or discarding it as obsolete depends on the nature and purpose of the website.
